Class Was Cancelled Pt. 1: Kermis on Thursday

Noticed this going on a couple of days ago:

Aaaand this is what it has become:

This is called Amsterdam Kermis, a yearly fair/ carnival thing that originally had something to do with celebrating a saint, but, like most great holidays, it has lost that connotation and now exploits people for capital gain.  But boy did I have fun!

I was supposed to meet Sara at 4 four our weekly pre-class coffee, but I got to Dam early to scope out the scene.

This ride was ca-raaaazy!  I did not go on it, don't worry, Grammy.

This pic pretty much sums up the fickleness of the weather here.

"American" food hut

The New York funhouse...?

Appelbol: puffed pastry coated in sugar and filled with apples and raisins.

And then I met up with Sara!  She was so excited because yesterday she "was hating the life" with all of her essays and such, and this carnival reminded her of being a kid at home.  We rode on the ferris wheel, so here, have a ton of pictures of Amsterdam from 60 meters in the air (and some adorable videos of one of my BFFs- best foreign friends).

Blogger is being really stupid about videos, so I can't put this one directly on the page.  Here's a link to it on YouTube:

So yeah, I just live here, no big deal.
