- Vondelpark: Amsterdam's largest park hosts frequent cultural and musical gatherings/ performances and is also home to a collection of sculptures
- Reddit meetup: members of /r/Amsterdam get together to socialize in person on the first Saturday of each month and randomly throughout the year
- Friday Night Skate: a spin around the city on your own pair of wheels with a large group of fellow skaters
- (Aug- Oct) De Tolhuistuin: literary readings, music, art, and more hosted in this garden venue
- Amsterdam Museum (history of Amsterdam); Anne Frank Huis; Van Gogh Museum; Rijksmuseum (recently renovated art museum); etc.
- (16- 25) Gratchtenfestival: fancy music for free
- (20- 23) ISN Introduction Week: 3 days of running around the city with international students. Includes a crash-course in Dutch, a trip to the zoo, and pub crawls.
- (25) Modern Hippie Markt: from what I can gather, it's a bazzaar that's one minute away from my apartment
- (30- 1) Uitmarkt: a festival celebrating the opening of the cultural season in The Netherlands

- (6- 28) West Beach Film Festival: free outdoor movies
- (7-8) 24H West: a chance to explore the West district of Amsterdam, in 24 hours
- (13- 15) Jordaan Festival: neighborhood celebration
- (14- 15) Amsterdam Heritage Day: in honor of Amsterdam's history, multiple museums/ monuments/ etc. will be open to the public, free of charge!

- (26- 27) 24H Noord: a chance to explore the Noord district of Amsterdam, in 24 hours
- (17) Arrival of Sinterklaas: parade celebrating the arrival of Amsterdam's Santa Clause, who is always accompanied by six to eight black men
- Turn on the Lights: holiday illumination of a large department store, complete with 45-minute light show
- Illumination of Christmas tree in Dam Square

- Amsterdam Light Festival
- Drag Winter Olympics: people in drag doing sports. What could be more entertaining?
- Celebrate New Year's Eve
